A bittersweet life of a freelancer
hands up if you are a freelancer like me, it doesnt have to be design, it can be anything! so how do you feel being one? amazing? exciting? hard? difficult? well this is going to a be a short post * i hope i dont start rambling my way down haha*
i am going to list down the bitter + sweet life of being one, and how to deal with it :)

I FEEL ADVENTUROUS
- ok so the word ADVENTUROUS barely...wait no.. actually.. never came out from my mouth. so when i said adventurous, i mean it! adrenaline rush, butterflies in the tummy, heartbeat, fireworks. why? I love working as one. I got to learn so many things like marketing, money management, time management, stir my brains for ideas, printing, creating a vision into reality, facing and meeting different types of clients ( good and bad) and many more. Although there are some disappointments and difficulties, i always remember about these excitement :)
I FEEL LIKE I AM THE BOSS
- believe it or not this was the answer when my bitchy lecturer asked me what i want to be in the future? * in her judgmental tone of voice* i answer her simply : i want to be the boss to order ppl around. HA! she went quiet after that, which is funny if i remember it now. Yes as i said just now, i have to handle everything, i have to think how to market it * kinda difficult for me* , how to manage time and everything, how to deal with certain clients.
I GOT TO KEEP THE MONEY BY MYSELF
- i work. i earn the money. the money goes into my bank acc. enough said ;D no sharing and giving it away to others
I EARN EQUALLY AS OTHERS WHO WORKS UNDER PEOPLE
- yes this may seems harsh but i will tell you why soon. basically, if you count it every month, i earn equally as my other friends who work under people.
I LOVE THE VARIETY OF DESIGNS
- i am the type of person i get bored easily so i need to face and do alot of new things and being a freelancer it suits me. why? different people has different needs and wants, so i face different things everyday! do different designs everyday and i think that is the challange.
I LOVE THE FLEXIBILITY
- since i am the boss of my own self, i can arrange time as flexible as i want it to be ;D and this is the major reason why i think freelancer is suitable for me :)
I LIKE TO MEET NEW PEOPLE
- although i know my clients cant be a friend but it is always fun and refreshing to be able to meet different kind of people with different background :) dont you think?
so basically, being a freelancer is perfect * not when ur so free and u have no job tho haha* i love the time flexibility, the adventurous and to meet new people :)
but not everytime is sweet treats there are also some bitterness in it... but as you all know i am a very ignorance people so ignore all these negative vibes but there are certain vibes that i cant.. like..
FRIENDS WHO THINK YOU ARE ACTUALLY NOT DOING ANYTHING BUT STILL EARNS MONEY
- I seriously have no idea what the fudge is their problems? i mean this is my life, whether i want to work and dont want to work, what is their problems? jealous? perhaps! sucks to be you who has to work your arse off days and nights to earn money, n no i usually dont judge people but when i started to say all these things, it means people are really judging me. I dont have a problem but i will have a problem with this when the people who judge me are actually not even better than me i may say lower. like i know my qualification and the type of ppl who usually judge me is basically: PEOPLE WHO WORK AS STAFF, PEOPLE WHO HAS NO MOTIVATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL, PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST JEALOUS JUST CUZ YOU STAY AT HOME, WORK AT HOME BUT EARN MORE MONEY.
basically thats it the negative vibe :D
how to deal with them?
I ALWAYS THINK " I KNOW MY TALENT, I KNOW I WANT TO BE A SUCCESSFUL WOMAN"
- self motivation is one way to boost up the "down" feeling. Keep on telling yourself you are better than them and you will be successful
IGNORE THEM & PRETEND YOUR ARE AN ACTRESS/ACTOR
- this is probably is hard but gotta ignore them! like.. being an actress, there will be rumours and gossips about u , all they have to do is to ignore them :)
STAY THE HECK FAR AWAY FROM THEM
- these people will only bring negative vibes that discourage you, nothing good will come from them :) just keep quiet, stay away from them, keep on working what you are doing, even when you are free keep on making and creating new things to be put into your portfolio , and one day i believe all of your hard work will be paid off, BIG TIME :)
so, as you can see, i have more of the SWEET-TREATS point of being a freelance designer. why? i love it! i cant complain much about it! i love expressing myself into my designs, i love creating something personal because something personal is the most treasure gifts or memory one can ever ask for :)
some people are just lucky to be working on their passion, i hope and i pray i am one of them. i still have a long way to go but with God's blessing and guidance i know i can be a success, just like my dad :) it aint easy my frens but im holding on.

How to look casually-smart in a budget?
Money can be slightly tight around the corner especially when you are a freelancer and when you just starting out. We all know that first impression is very important no matter what, where and where. When you are going to an interview, when you are dating, when you are going to see a friend whom you haven't seen for such a long time, just you know.. those times when you know you are going to see them for the first time or the first time after a long time, you just need to find the PERFECT attire to wear to show them that you are in a better position now.
Then when it comes to products, when people say " if there is a price, there is a look" well it is my own saying though but have you ever go into a store, high-end (branded) and normal store (dept store or non branded), prices are different but the quality is also different? we cant deny that fact. I myself would love to shop like a maniac if i have the endless amount of money at the high-end stores :P
so, how do we look posh, casual but smart so that the people we are meeting for the first time is impressed by us? in this case, i am just going to give one situation, my situation, to see a client for design. I gotta be true to myself that i do find it difficult when it comes looking for a new attire whenever i meet up with my client. I dont buy my items from a high-end stores, i got my reasons why, and most of my items are non-branded. What can i say? i am all about the comfort than the brand.
here is some suggestions or ideas from me to you :)
1. LOOKING FOR AN INSPIRATION
How about, instead of buying magazines, which you wont need it anymore after reading it, go onto the internet (i am sure you all have internet, even it is only on your mobile) and just click "google" and type keywords like smart casual outfits, it will show you millions of outfits for ideas. If by searching through the search bar isnt that stylish for you, just simply find website that shows styling + outfits ideas, my favorite on is: LOOKBOOK.NU infact i have my own profile over there :P So, internet is one free option to look for the inspiration.
2. WHERE TO BUY?
I have a few suggestion on places but the most common place i went to is no other than DEPT. STORES. why? i always find them cheaper than the high-end ones, better quality than the non-brand ones. It is kinda in the middle of the level. Let me tell you the level of shopping here: High-end ( you know the YSL, BCBG, BVLGARI ETC), local brand (locally made with a pricey price but gotta love our own local products right? ), dept store (so-so price, better quality not superb tho, but still alright), and non-brand (bad garment and cheap but not so cheap). So dept. store is the most perfect place for me to find outfits (casually smart ) to wear. Girls just love it when they see "SALE" although my bf told me that it is kinda useless to go buy stuff from sale sections but here is another advice, when it comes to sale, check the high-end stores first usually they cut their price so low and it is more worth it to buy it there than dept store. Gotta be a smart shopper! (which i need to learn that!)
3. WHAT TO KEEP IN THE WARDROBE?
Main importants basics and colours to keep in your wardrobe are: Tanktops, spaghetti straps top, plain tshirt, button up blouse, blazer, cardigans, vest, jeans, knee-length skirts, dresses, pointy heels, wedges, cover-up flats and some accessories. All of these items, are not branded. I will tell you in which items to splurge if you want to splurge in a few moments
So, after you got that down, now the colours: BLACK, WHITE, BEIGE, GREY, BROWN ( all neutral colours) why? you can easily mix and match these and these will simply match everything. If these colours are a little to boring, you can add some bright bold colours: neon colours but remember to match them with some neutral acs or navy jeans. OH! jeans, make sure you have: black, navy and light blue denim. JEANS IS LIKE THE MUST HAVE FOR A DESIGNER LIKE ME :D
Accessories, basically i am not a big fan of accessories but i do pair them up with my outfit and after a few times of studying haha i love wearing pearls necklaces, some simple diamonte/pearl studs.
Let me give you my all time to go look!

- some nude heels
- pearl necklace
girly enough? :P
ps: if you are a guy, just simply buy some blazer, bootcut jeans , tshirt and button-up top and some formal shoes. oh dont forget, a watch!

This is only for those of you who wants to splurge, i always think WATCH & HANDBAGS are the best assets to splurge. But for those of you who doesn't want to splurge, simply go for a black handbag or a white/silver/gold watch. :)

This is only for the ladies but gentlemen, you can also take some advice from this. When it comes to make up, no one going to know the brand that you have. SERIOUSLY. Even when you apply mac e/s on your left eye and Revlon e/s on the right one, if the colours look the same, they wont even have the slightest clue on the brand :) so you can really save up on make up.
Before i start with the colour, im going to tell you where and which brand to buy. Of course, dept store, as you guys know that dept has everything! or you can go to the brand counter itself.
Here are some of my fave drugstore products that are sold in dept store: REVLON, LOREAL, MAYBELLINE, MAX FACTOR. All of their prices are almost half or more cheaper compare to the highend ones. The quality? almost as good as the high-end ones. You are not going to wear make up 24/7 right? no it isnt good for your skin! :P
Now onto the colours, they are very easy, make sure you have: Neutral colours of eyeshadows (black/brown/nude) you can buy them in pallette usually they are more worth it, Lipstick in pink, red, peach and nude, Blushes in pink or peach, some black eyeliner and eyebrow pencil.
You need foundation + powder: Revlon colourstay for these! they are the BOMB!
As for the men, you can wear foundation + powder to make the skin flawless :)
6. TECHNOLOGY GADGET?
We all know that these tech items are often very pricey and for someone who just started, man... the income that you have can hardly cover the meal of the day! Dont worry, once you have the perfect attire, you dont need any tech haha because all eyes gonna be on you! to replace the gadget, simply just buy an a5 size of file with some papers and pen inside. It will be better if you can buy an extra plastic folder that can be bind inside together with the paper, and within that plastic folder, you can put pens, pencil, namecards and all those stationary that you need :)
so, you dont have to splurge so much to look casual and smart. With the right make up, colour and outfit you are set to go!

MAJOR UPDATES.
hello love!
i have a few big updates for you. No no no i am still here :) nothing bad happening infact, a few of good things will be happening.
without much further ado, here we go!
UPDATES
- WEBSITE WILL BE LAUNCH THIS MONTH
i am very excited with this new! i have been wanting a website (official) for my own company! i always think if you want to make this bigger or expand your business, an official website will help alot. so this is another step i am taking. The website wont be that super duper cool but for now, i am looking for something simple and clean :) anyway stay tuned on that, will be announce on the facebook n twitter and bbm :)
- BLOGSPOT? will it be closed?
no no it wont. this blog of mine has been there since day one, it is like, my diary but of course for design :P no i dont own any personal blog. hence i wont be uploading any work to this blog anymore. all of the new projects will be uploaded to the website together with the old ones. but we will see :)
so what is the use of keeping this blog if im going to have my own official website? READ THE NEXT POINT
- SATURDAY TALKS
so, it has been a year and a few months since i work as a freelancer and needless to say i went through alot of good and bad, happy and sad, satisfaction and disappointment, and many more. So, i am pretty sure other freelancer are going through the same thing too. This is a special session from you to you all (yes all, EVERYONE) i hope by doing this, we all can respect each other more :3 n probably gained more knowledge :P
